Beschrijving

Through a restrained vocabulary of line, colour and geometry, Jean-Pierre Maury constructs a painting of remarkable precision and quiet elegance. Every proportion has been carefully considered, allowing the composition to achieve an extraordinary sense of balance.

Rather than presenting geometry as something static, Maury introduces subtle variations that activate the surface and encourage continuous visual exploration. The work unfolds gradually, revealing new relationships between its individual elements.

Jean-Pierre Maury was a leading figure of what he termed the 'mouvance construite' — the constructed- art movement that flourished in Belgium and France from the 1980s onward. In 1988 he co-founded, with painters including Marcel-Louis Baugniet, Jo Delahaut and Léon Wuidar, the review Mesures art international. His paintings pursue a rigorous, geometric language rooted in alchemical symbolism, balancing colour, line and structure into what he called 'dynamic stabilities'.
