Description
This elegant set of two Art Deco Tulip armchairs, originally from Hotel Le Malandre in France, is a rare example of the distinctive seating produced for the hotel during the 1930s. Designed with beautifully curved, flower-shaped silhouettes, sculptural lines and generous proportions, the chairs reflect the refined yet expressive character of French Art Deco.
The original designer and manufacturer remain unknown, as was often the case with bespoke furniture created specifically for hotels at the time. Authentic examples are occasionally identified by a small plaque reading “Hôtel Le Malandre – Modèle Déposé”, further connecting these distinctive chairs to their original setting.
Characterised by their low profile, enveloping form, solid wooden frames and richly detailed front panels, the Tulip armchairs combine sculptural presence with comfort. These armchairs have been carefully reupholstered in Alcantara, a luxurious and highly durable microfibre with a soft, suede-like texture. The refined upholstery gives the pieces a contemporary finish while preserving their original Art Deco character.
The set is in good pre-loved condition, showing only minor signs of age and use consistent with its history. This set is available to view and test at our showroom at Volkstraat 58 in Antwerp.
It can form a complete set with the Art Deco Tulip two seater for Hotel Malandre, all crafted to complement each other as a cohesive ensemble.
