Description

Transparences Monumentales represents one of Francis Dusépulchre's most ambitious explorations of transparency, volume and spatial construction. Fine carbon rods and delicate steel wires are suspended within a transparent plexiglass structure, creating an almost immaterial composition that appears to float in space.

As the viewer moves around the sculpture, the lines continually overlap and dissolve, generating ever- changing geometric configurations. Rather than defining space through mass, Dusépulchre constructs it through light, emptiness and perception.

Dusépulchre (1934–2013) trained as an art teacher before turning, self-taught, to painting and sculpture. From 1979 he began stretching wires across his panels, and by 1983 was embedding optical fibres to generate points of light — a body of work centred on how structure, incision and light interact across a surface.
