Description

This painting exemplifies Maury's mature geometric language, in which rigorous construction coexists with an exceptional sense of visual harmony. Carefully measured forms generate a composition that appears stable at first glance yet reveals subtle shifts in proportion and rhythm over time.

Colour is employed not as decoration but as a structural element, defining space and directing the viewer's perception. The resulting work possesses an almost architectural quality, reflecting Maury's interest in order, balance and visual equilibrium.

Jean-Pierre Maury was a leading figure of what he termed the 'mouvance construite' — the constructed- art movement that flourished in Belgium and France from the 1980s onward. In 1988 he co-founded, with painters including Marcel-Louis Baugniet, Jo Delahaut and Léon Wuidar, the review Mesures art international. His paintings pursue a rigorous, geometric language rooted in alchemical symbolism, balancing colour, line and structure into what he called 'dynamic stabilities'.
