Description
Jean-Pierre Maury's paintings occupy a unique position within geometric abstraction, combining mathematical precision with an exceptional sensitivity to colour and surface. This composition demonstrates his ability to transform simple geometric relationships into works of remarkable visual intensity.
Working directly on MDF, Maury exploits the material's smooth surface to achieve an extraordinary clarity of form. Every line and colour field is carefully calibrated, creating subtle optical tensions that continuously activate the composition.
Jean-Pierre Maury was a leading figure of what he termed the 'mouvance construite' — the constructed- art movement that flourished in Belgium and France from the 1980s onward. In 1988 he co-founded, with painters including Marcel-Louis Baugniet, Jo Delahaut and Léon Wuidar, the review Mesures art international. His paintings pursue a rigorous, geometric language rooted in alchemical symbolism, balancing colour, line and structure into what he called 'dynamic stabilities'.
