Description
Designed in the early 1980s by Danish architect and designer Niels Jørgen Haugesen, the String Chair is an example of minimalist Scandinavian design. With its geometric wooden frame and wire seat, the chair is both sculptural and functional—seemingly light in appearance yet sturdy in structure.
Haugesen, known for his architectural approach to furniture design, created the String Chair as an exploration of line, balance, and transparency. His work reflects a deep understanding of both form and function, and this design in particular has become a modern classic. The chairs were produced by Tranekær Furniture, a Danish manufacturer recognized for its focus on high-quality, innovative furniture in the latter half of the 20th century.
This set includes 8 original String Dining Chairs, all in excellent vintage condition. Minor signs of wear consistent with age and use are visible. The seats have been newly reupholstered. Their clean, brutalist look makes them ideal for both contemporary and classic interiors, whether around a dining table or used as statement side chairs.
