Description
The UMBO Accent Table embodies Arno Declercq's distinctive approach to furniture design, where sculptural presence and refined craftsmanship come together in perfect balance. Handcrafted in Belgium from burned and oiled Iroko, the table reveals the rich texture and deep, charred tones of the wood, celebrating the natural beauty of the material.
Its name is derived from the Swahili expression "Umbo lililopinda," meaning "curved form." True to its name, the table explores soft, rounded volumes that create a sense of movement while maintaining the bold, architectural character that defines Declercq's work. Inspired in part by his early exposure to African tribal objects and the world of fashion and design, his work brings together functional forms, natural materials and a strong sense of presence.
Born in Belgium in 1994, Arno Declercq began his practice in 2017 with very limited means, gradually building his studio through a hands-on approach centred on craftsmanship and experimentation. Today, he is internationally recognised for his minimalist, monolithic furniture and objects, characterised by clean geometries, tactile surfaces and a quiet sense of monumentality.
This UMBO Accent Table is a new piece and is available to view at our showroom at Volkstraat 58 in Antwerp.
