Signed and dated at bottom left, this 1956 gouache and ink work sits at the turning point in Paul Van Hoeydonck's career, the same year he joined the Formes group and moved decisively into geometric abstraction.
Shown at Art Antwerp in December 2025 and published in Jan Ceuleers' 2011 monograph. Paul Van Hoeydonck (1925–2025) was a co-founder of the Antwerp avant-garde group G58 and became internationally known for his Space Art of the 1960s. In 1971, the crew of Apollo 15 placed his sculpture 'Fallen Astronaut' on the Moon, in tribute to astronauts and cosmonauts who had died in the exploration of space — still the only artwork ever installed beyond Earth.
