At over two metres tall, this large oil on panel is a commanding example of Guy Vandenbranden's work, with an exhibition history running from the Musée de Menton in 2016 to 'Belgitudes' at LAAC Dunkerque in 2022. 

Vandenbranden (1926–2014) abandoned figurative painting in 1951 and, after entering the Brussels art scene and befriending Pol Bury, Jo Delahaut and Jean Rets, joined the Art Abstrait group in 1956, committing thereafter to a fully geometric abstraction he pursued without interruption until his death.

Around 1958 his palette narrowed toward near-monochrome black and white, aligning him with the American Hard Edge movement, and from 1961 he extended his geometric language into relief and sculpture. He remains recognised as a leading figure of the second generation of Belgian Constructivists, working in the lineage of Piet Mondrian and Victor Vasarely.
