Description

An elongated horizontal composition in ink and pencil, this drawing reveals the more intimate, immediate side of André Willequet's practice, in which line and gesture stand in for the volumes he otherwise carved in stone, wood and bronze.

Willequet (1921–1998) began producing works on paper — reliefs, imprints and monotypes — from 1970 onward, running parallel to his sculptural output. Trained at La Cambre under Oscar Jespers and later exposed to Zadkine, Brancusi and Henry Moore through his travels in France and England, he became one of the leading voices of lyrical abstraction in post-war Belgian sculpture, with works held in numerous museum collections.
