Description

Designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld in 1934, the Zig Zag Chair is one of the most distinctive designs of the 20th century. Rather than following the traditional construction of legs, seat and backrest, Rietveld created a continuous Z-shaped silhouette from four wooden planes.

Its seemingly simple construction is technically refined, with precisely executed dovetail joints showcasing Cassina’s exceptional craftsmanship. The result is a sculptural chair in which horizontal, diagonal and vertical lines come together in a striking architectural composition.

Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888–1964) was a leading figure of the De Stijl movement. His radical approach to geometry and construction resulted in some of the most influential works of modern design, including the Red and Blue Chair, the Zig Zag Chair and the Schröder House.

This set consists of two Cassina Zig Zag Chairs in ash wood, produced in 2016. The chairs carry the consecutive serial numbers 11469 and 11470, making them a matching pair. Both chairs are preserved in perfect condition.

The chairs are sold as a set of two and can be viewed at our showroom in Volkstraat 58, Antwerp.
