Description
This set of six Tulip side chairs, designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll International in 1960, represents one of the most iconic silhouettes of mid-century design. With their seamless, sculptural form, these chairs embody Saarinen’s visionary goal of creating a unified, pedestal-based furniture line that eliminated the visual clutter of traditional legs.
Each chair features a smooth, moulded fibre glass shell supported by a white coated metal pedestal base, a hallmark of the Tulip series. The seats are fitted with upholstered cushions in a dark grey-blue tone fabric, adding comfort.
Eero Saarinen, the Finnish-American architect and designer, developed the Tulip collection in the late 1950s as part of his pursuit of purity in form and structure. His collaboration with Knoll International brought the series to life with the technical precision and high-quality craftsmanship for which Knoll is renowned. Today, Tulip chairs remain enduring icons, celebrated contemporary interiors around the world.
This set shows only light signs of age consistent with careful use and comes as part of a complete set with the Tulip dining table, all crafted to complement each other as a cohesive ensemble.
