Description
This iconic Tulip dining set, featuring a round dining table and six side chairs, designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll, represents one of the most celebrated achievements of mid-century design.
Produced in 1960 and marked '164', the table features a striking white marble round top, showcasing its timeless natural veining, resting on Saarinen’s signature pedestal base in white coated metal.
The accompanying chairs are crafted with smooth, moulded fiberglass shells, each resting on a matching white-coated metal pedestal base, an unmistakable hallmark of the Tulip series. Upholstered seat cushions in a dark grey-blue tone provide comfort while subtly enhancing the set’s clean, organic lines.
Eero Saarinen, the renowned Finnish-American architect and designer, famously aimed to eliminate what he called the “slum of legs” created by traditional furniture. His Tulip series was a radical response: a sculptural, fluid form distilled into a single, elegant pedestal.
This complete set is in good preloved condition, preserving the enduring beauty and integrity of Saarinen’s original design.
Although the dining table and side chairs form a cohesive ensemble, they are also available for purchase individually.
